The Del Club at Hotel del Coronado · Sunday, the eighteenth of October
In the novel, the invitation arrives without ever being requested.
So did this one.
You have been noticed
The Club chose from its membership.
The author chose the rest.
There is no third way into this room.
You have been invited
There will be no podium.
No table of books. No line to stand in.
Not a book launch. The room where one happens.
The Club has hosted many evenings.
It has not hosted this one.
A chapter of this novel is set inside this hotel.
For two hours, the rest of it will be.
The room will tell you things about this hotel.
Some of them are true.
No one will tell you which.
There is a room inside the room. Nothing on it says so.
Some of you will end the evening inside it.
At an hour no one announces, every guest opens the same envelope.
Five of them will not say the same thing.
On your way out, you will be asked one question.
You can open it now. Or you can wait until you are asked.
What you leave with depends on your answer.
The evening includes
- Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres created for this evening only
- The hotel’s own historian, on what is true here and what is not
- A bookplate, signed and numbered at the author’s desk
- One sealed box, and whatever you decide to do with it
Two hours. Cocktail attire. Complimentary.

The Author
Patrick Perrine
Patrick Perrine is a San Diego entrepreneur, investor, and the author of seventeen books. House of Vale: The Selection is his eighteenth book and his first thriller.
It follows a man who spent twenty years learning to read every room he walked into, and never noticed the one that had been reading him since he was a boy. It moves through San Diego, London, Dubai, Kerala, Lake Como and New York — and through one hotel on Coronado.
